BDNF expression is up-regulated in NSCLC samples. BDNF stimulation increases the synthesis of BDNF itself through activation of STAT3 in lung cancer cells.

Findings show that BDNF expression is upregulated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and inversely correlate with miR-107 . Also, they provide evidence that miR-107 could suppress NSCLC metastasis by targeting BDNF and indirectly regulating PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.

Endogenous brain-derived neurotrophic factor antisense in non-small cell lung cancer carcinoma could be a potential biomarker for predicting patients' prognosis. Overexpressing brain-derived neurotrophic factor antisense may also have a therapeutic potential in inhibiting non-small cell lung cancer tumor growth.
